In Fleet, I own a local sandwich and coffee bar, which, due to its fortunate location in the centre of a busy high street, relies on walk in trade. I’ve always been happy with the progression of the business, and keep my business insurance up to date.
However, after my business partner and I reviewed our business plan, we agreed to develop a new strategy for 2011. This was to be a five year business plan and was to grow our business significantly. Initially I was a bit sceptical as it required a large investment in our infrastructure. As you can probably tell, my business partner was more of a risk taker and so we often disagreed about new strategies.
We needed to purchase refrigerated vehicles to develop with our business plan, which would allow us to deliver office lunches to those people who were unable to leave. We currently had one vehicle for one-off deliveries of this kind, and to develop this service we ordered three more vans to be delivered in two weeks.
After ordering the vans, I happened to be talking to a very knowledgeable insurance broker, to which I explained our business plan, and my concerns about the cost of the insurance of the vans. He put my mind at ease, suggesting we put all the vehicles on one fleet policy, an idea which had not occurred to me, which would save us money, and made sense because all the vehicles were being delivered together.
When I explained about our existing van, which had its insurance renewal up in three months, the broker suggested leaving it on its own policy until it expires, before moving it onto the policy with the other fleet vehicles.
After contacting my broker to arrange the fleet insurance I saved a significant amount of money, and would recommend using your local insurance broker to anyone looking to save money on fleet insurance.
A worthwhile insurance broker like Coversure will be able to secure you the best available deal on your fleet insurance. Even including their broker fees, the chances are that the deal will work out cheaper because of their excellent contacts and influences in the insurance industry. fleet insurance

Cheap truck insurance isn’t the only consideration for a trucker looking at insurance quotes. It is important also to look at what coverage you are buying with your truck insurance so that you don’t get caught out if you have an accident.
A business using trucks relies heavily on them to transport their product to suppliers and clients, and therefore they need to carefully consider the insurance they are going to use. There are various angles which need to be covered in the insurance, for example the business will need to cover the cost of damage to the actual truck, the possibility of being sued by the other party, and also any cargo that the truck may be carrying from damage or theft.
Trucks vary in size, and because of this the price of insurance varies widely also. I have seen trucks defined as anything between 3.6 tons and those gargantuan trucks that hold up the motorway and weigh in at 60 tons. The cargos also vary widely, and this too can have an impact on the cost of insurance, For example a truck might carry:
- Livestock - Flammable materials like petrol - Valuable cargo like expensive cars (imagine crashing in to a truck load of Porsches!) - Foodstuff - Important paperwork
The list can go on.
In my opinion, the very best way to make sure your truck is properly insured is to talk to a reputable insurance broker. That way you will get honest advice about what kind of truck insurance you need and also perhaps get some guidance on what other insurance requirements you have.
The insurance broker you use may also be able to offer you ways to alter your business, which will mean you can lower the risk of your trucks being involved in any accidents. This will mean you claim less, and ultimately your premiums will remain at a controllable level.

When my son and I go to Truckfest this year, I’m hoping to sort some ‘cheap’ insurance for my truck, which is up for renewal. I am aware, however, that cheap insurance doesn’t really exist. I’m not only going for the insurance though, I’m not ‘sad’, my son loves the Monster Trucks!
The diversity of Truckfest is one of the best things about it. There are so many people to meet and so much to see, such as new technology brought in by companies, insurance brokers explaining their policies, large haulage firms and small owner drivers, so there really is something there for a huge range of people.
As one of the UK’s largest outdoor events, it combines monster trucks, industry bodies, exciting family entertainment, celebrity guests potential employers and trade stands. Truckfest is used by the trucking industry to showcase the latest industry developments and vehicles, and is therefore attended by hundreds of trucks, from standard HGVs and fleets to giant trucks with magnificent artwork and gleaming chrome.
This event also gets the general public involved with the industry, and even if you aren’t interested in trucks particularly, there is still plenty to do, from craft fairs, and the action packed entertainment to the giant trade stand areas and model shows.
I am looking forward to Truckfest for many reasons, but one of my main objectives will be to try and get a good deal on my truck insurance. Having said that, it’s not always a case of looking for the cheapest insurance deal and it is often better to ensure that you have a comprehensive insurance policy. The way I look at it, if you get a cheap insurance deal at the same time, that’s all the better. If you can’t find what you’re looking for at Tuckfest, I would suggest you contact your local insurance broker. Most of the time, you really can’t beat the personal service provided by a good local insurance broker.
Good truck insurance policies are often difficult to find at a reasonable price, but not impossible, using an insurance broker like Coversure who are one of the top companies, to secure you a great deal using their contacts and influences in the industry. truck insurance

We used to sit in the back of my Dad’s truck outside the house, and we loved it. We loved it when we were very young, and even when we had grown up and moved out. By this point the truck had aged a few years and was prone to breaking down. Dad insured his truck, and included breakdown cover for the times we were left without a working vehicle. Those picnics on the side of the road while we waited for the RAC were actually quite fun!
When an uninsured driver hit the truck we were obviously all worried, but Dad was fine. The truck, on the other hand, was less fortunate. After remembering the lectures to me and my siblings about insurance, I realised there wasn’t going to be a problem. When I was younger and my parents made me get fully comp insurance I was very annoyed, and didn’t see the point, but now, 3 claims on, it has saved my on several occasions.
It wasn’t long before we were informed that the truck was dead. The insurance company were great and sorted us straight out with a new one, but for me and my brothers, this new shiny one wasn’t as good as the old truck we’d grown up with. Dad, however, was very happy of course! He’d had the correct cover, and the insurance had paid for itself over the years and now Dad had been given a replacement truck free!
Now I’m making sure the kids have the right insurance on their vehicles. I have the truck now. It’s not so shiny anymore. I don’t use it for work but it comes in handy when moving the eldest into and home from university. I still make sure I have breakdown cover on my insurance; I definitely wouldn’t be able to get the truck going if it broke down, and neither of the kids would be able to help.
Dad doesn’t find the best insurance deal for me anymore so I go to a broker that can search through loads of different truck policies and do the work for me. All I need to do is call up if I need to know anything about my truck cover. If your truck, like mine, deserves proper protection then make sure you have the right truck insurance by talking to a good insurance broker.
After years of insuring them all separately I spoke to an insurance broker who informed me that I could have a fleet policy. The insurance company hadn’t let us down; there was a shiny new truck outside, in the old truck’s place. Congratulations if you now qualify for fleet insurance, which means your business has grown enough for you to have a large number of vehicles which are necessary for fleet insurance purposes. You no longer qualify for “no claims bonus”, but your annual renewal is based on claims.
So are you looking forward to your insurance renewal? Will you be surprised to find a hefty increase on what you paid last year? You’re going to shop around aren’t you?
Shopping around can be hard work for both you and your broker, but it is a good idea to shop around because you are likely to make savings from year to year.
To make savings you need to plan well in advance before you shop around. To give yourself enough time you should leave at least six weeks before your renewal, and let your broker know you need competitive quotes. If you are not satisfied with your broker, find another broker or get the quotes for yourself.
To be properly prepared you need to do more than just leave six weeks. You will need to gather your information from previous claims to tell your new insurer. This information will include the amounts received and the details of the event. If one of these events was a driving accident, in which you were the victim, the insurer will need to know the details about the third party paying. This information can be gathered from your original insurer, insist that you need this information – you are entitled to it.
When using an alternative broker, he will need all the details of all your vehicles, including the make, the model, where they are stored etc. You’ll also need to gather the information regarding the drivers, including age, gender, driving licence details, driving related convictions and so on, so make sure you have the information beforehand. This will not be a wasted effort because your existing broker will want your latest driver information anyway.
When using fleet insurance, your administration is simplified, and although it can be difficult to get the best deal at renewal, it can be very convenient.
This information can be gathered from your original insurer, insist that you need this information – you are entitled to it. Home Insurance fleet insurance Burglars often employ surveillance techniques before attempting any action. Also, alongside this policy I got a discounted price on my RAC breakdown cover.

I have four cars which I have acquired over the years. I used to insure them separately, but I have now spoken to an insurance broker who has informed me that I am able to insure them using a fleet policy, meaning all the cars are under one policy. This means I am now able to renew them at once, saving time, and meaning there is only one annual premium charge, which is much cheaper than using separate policies for each car.
My first car was a small car to perform daily tasks in. I bought it after having to ride a bike to work, and was so pleased. If someone had told me then that I would have four cars in the future, I wouldn’t have believed you, but I soon bought my second. After moving to the countryside, and buying a house at the top of a hill, it became increasingly obvious that my small car was not able to cope with snow.
As a result of frustration at being snowed in I bought a four-wheel drive. Although this is a brilliant car, I couldn’t sell my old one, and still use it for small tasks such as trips to the supermarket. However, I began to realise that the search for two cheap insurance policies was too time consuming.
After the other two vehicles, I bought a van for work. When I had to insure it, I consulted an insurance broker, and he surprised me by saying that fleet insurance does not only cater for companies with hundreds of vehicles, but that I could take out a policy with my three vehicles. It also was not a problem that my vehicles were different types, apparently you can mix and match your vehicles and insure them under the same policy. Also, alongside this policy I got a discounted price on my RAC breakdown cover.
After my wife began driving, I was shocked and pleased to be told that her car could also be added to my fleet insurance policy. I cannot imagine how difficult and time consuming it would be to find four separate policies. You should speak to your local broker if your household has three or more vehicles but fewer drivers than cars, and they will be able to arrange a fleet policy, meaning you could save both time and money.
Fleet Insurance fleet insurance By this point the truck had aged a few years and was prone to breaking down. Your business grew to the point where the number of vehicles you have was considered to be a fleet for insurance purposes. Dad insured his truck, and included breakdown cover for the times we were left without a working vehicle.
