Patience gives you success and the best one available. Make sure to look at several available vehicles before you finally decide. So do your homework and study the market to help you make that purchase. Prior to the physical inspection of the vehicle, ensure that all documents are in place. These will include the title, registration, emissions test, and any other test or documentation that the government requires. Ask about the car’s history and past condition as well.
The exterior appearance is easier to assess on a bight sunny day. It would be easier to spot ripples, if there are any. An old car that has been in existence for decades will have some type of body work done. This is not a concern, what’s important is the quality of the work done. A good example of body work should be straight and without any ripples. Check the curves for any “fatness”. This happens to bodies with poorly applied fillers. Other giveaways or unsatisfactory body work includes paint overspray, dents or damage to the structure. Check under the hood and other parts which cannot be visible from the outside.
On a sunny day, it’s easy to spot certain ripples on the exterior of the car. This is indicative of poorly applied filler. Some body work is common for a car that’s decades old, however, it must be done properly for it not to affect the vehicle’s appearance and value. Good body work is straight and won’t leave ripples. Watch out for paint over spray, dents, and rust to structural parts. Check under the hood, the hood itself, and panels which are not visible from the outside. Emblems and exterior trims must correspond to the particular car model. When inspecting the identification plates, match the color code to the one in the owner’s manual. If the original paint has been replaced, the car has lesser value.
Original carpeting must also be used. Ask permission to lift a small portion at the back to check this. If the carpet is wet, there might be leaks. It is usually unwise to invest in a car that has it because this will result to fast corrosion. It is expensive to correct. Overspray will also be detected by doing this.

The 1940′s were an unusual decade for the automobile industry with the first luxury cars rolling off the production lines. We’ve taken a look at the industry during that time and some of the luxury cars that came about during the historical decade.
The Automobile Industry in the 40′s
Most notably, the US stands out for its automobile industry especially in the 40′s. In 1940, the US produced 4,680,000 cars prior to the Second World War, however, this decade is the only period in which car manufacturing stopped for over 3 years. No cars were produced after 1942 due to World War II, and production for civilians didn’t resume until 1946. The early 1940′s did however see luxury cars rolling off the production lines, with cars showing the wealth and status of their owners. Such cars like the Delahaye 135 Convertible were produced, a car that was the ultimate 40′s luxury vehicle.
World War II saw the conversion of many automotive manufacturing plants to produce military vehicles such as the one-quarter tonne four-wheel drive military vehicle called the Jeep. At the same time Chrysler introduced the safety rim wheel, a wheel that kept the tyre on the rim in the event of a blowout. At this time they also introduced the two-speed electric windscreen wiper. Here’s a look at some of the most memorable cars from the 1940′s:
The Packard Clipper
Produced from 1941 to 1955 by the Packard Motor Car Company, and the Studebaker-Packard Corporation between 1955 and 1957, the Clipper was one of the most luxurious cars available at the time. A huge competitor to Cadillac, Packard’s Clipper was elegantly designed but lost its ‘bathtub’ appearance in the later stages of its production [1].
Delahaye 135 Convertible
Originally produced for the French government, private sales of the 135 Convertible were ceased, however, a small number of Delahaye cars such as the 134, 175 and 168 continued to be built for the occupying forces until 1942, and after World War II production of the 135 resumed.

No doubt about it, vintage autos have an enormous fan base. But while auto insurance for classic vehicles only covers part of the vehicle’s value, it is better than having nothing, in case of damage ot theft. These antique autos are a passion for many individuals, saving some of our automotive past in the process.
The assessment of classic autos increases with every passing year. This is totally different than with newer cars, which reduce in value every year. It is rather complicated to precisely determine the market value of an antique vehicle for insurance purposes.
Making matters worse, there aren’t all that many antique auto insurers that are available either. These vintage “works of art” are greatly sought-after by collectors who are at times prepared to pay a lot more than their tangible value.
Standard Vehicle Insurance
In the instance of an everyday vehicle that isn’t old enough to be an antique (usually 20 years), the worth of the car is calculated by using the original cost then depreciating each year from that amount. Of course, this presumes no major accidents, etc.
For classic vehicles, though, a bit more difficult. The cost simply cannot be determined using normal methods. Particularly since the monetary value of a vintage vehicle grows as time passes, not lessens.

There are three main methods for computing the assessment, insurance-wise, for an antique car.
Method 1: The worth is mutually agreed upon between the insurer and the owner. This can yield a higher insured amount than other ways.
Method Number 2: The automobile’s price is calculated based on the present values for comparable automobiles as listed in well-known vintage automobile publications and current price indexes. In some situations, an third-party assessor might be called in to help determine the worth of the vehicle.
Method Number 3: A lesser-used way is to calculate the monetary value of the automobile as the total of the actual cost plus the various enhancements and amount spent on repairs and such over the many years. In other words, the monetary value of the automobile is the amount determined after deducting the depreciation with age from the original price of the vehicle, then adding back in the restoration and upgrades.
Insuring Your Classic Vehicle
Summing to all up, antique auto insurance providers have their own provisions they use to calculate the insurable amount of the antique vehicle. As an example, these insurance providers typically insist that the vehicle being insured shouldn’t be used as a regular means of transportation. They may also insist that the vehicle be garaged.
Other requirements might include that the classic vehicle can’t be used for racing, and proof that other household members have access to other modes of transportation. Oh, and the owner needs to have a spick and span driving record, to boot.
Whether you call them vintage vehicles, classic cars or antique autos, they are a slice of automotive history…although a slice that has to be insured!
